Philemon God uses true and actual circumstances in our lives to give each of us opportunities to portray the reality of the love, forgiveness, transformational power, and grace of God to the world around us. These truths were clearly displayed in the lives of Paul, Philemon, and Onesimus. In his letter to Philemon, Paul appealed to him to be a part of this great drama of faith for love’s sake, and to allow the power of the gospel to be proclaimed to the world as he forgave Onesimus and received him as a brother. When we know who we are in Christ, and who has called us, we will see the hardships of life as divine opportunities to refresh others and display His glory as living examples.
