In John 19, Jesus was flogged and mocked, and rejected by the religious leaders. Pilate, who found no fault in him, delivered him to be crucified as a shamed criminal before a watching world—all while calling Him “The King of the Jews.” Yet, through all the upheaval and mayhem of this scene, we saw the beauty of the heart of Jesus, His character of love and humility, and his demeanor of peace that speaks healing and redemption into our own brokenness. The chapter ended with Jesus in the tomb. We found ourselves in the tension between the foot of the cross and the future hope … but Sunday is coming!
